What is interaortocaval lymph node?

The interaortocaval lymph node is a lymph node located in the retroperitoneal space anterior to the aorta and posterior to the inferior vena cava. It is also known as the para-aortic lymph node or the lumbar lymph node. The interaortocaval lymph node is an important site for lymphatic drainage of the abdomen and pelvis. It receives lymphatic drainage from the lymphatic vessels of the lower extremities, pelvic organs, and the colon. It also drains lymphatic fluid from the kidneys, adrenal glands, and the ureters. The interaortocaval lymph node plays a crucial role in the diagnosis and staging of several cancers, including prostate, ovarian, and colon cancer.
